Judges Overview + 1: The Israelites: Sometimes Faithful, Often Flawed

Judges 1

Welcome to Season 7! In this book starting in Judges 1, the nation of Israel has lost its leader, Joshua, and instead, transitions to a time of Judges.

HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:

The book of Judges, and even just Judges 1, gives us many life lessons. Susan highlights that fact with this takeaway, “The reason the Israelites failed is that they didn’t believe God would do what He said He would do. Their lack of faith opened the door to fear. As a result, they were not strong and courageous as Joshua had commanded. The life-threatening risk was too big in their eyes, it was impossible to win. So, from their perspective, they did their best but couldn’t drive them out. From God’s perspective, they could have they just didn’t trust Him to do it for them. And I get it… following God is often radical and requires risk. And like the Israelites, we are, at best faithful but flawed.

But what about for us? Do we have enough faith to overcome the fear of doing what God asks of us?

  • Like letting go of a relationship when we desperately want to be married.
  • Letting go of a career to pursue work we feel called to.
  • Letting go of the unknown by expanding our family through adoption.
  • These are not easy life decisions, but then no decision is easy without God.

What flaws keep you from obeying?

  • Are you often faithful and sometimes flawed?
  • Or are you sometimes faithful and often flawed?”

Those words were convicting to me. What have a let me fear keep me from doing for God? Do I need to reflect more and take action?

What was your Bible bender from  Judges 1? Did you learn anything new?
