The Old Testament Books

Old Testament Chart

Ever wondered how to categorize the Old Testament books?  For the 39 books, there are five major category divisions. As you can see above in this Old Testament chart, there are 5 books that are considered the Law (or the Torah), 12 history books, 5 books in the poetry and wisdom category, 5 books considered the major prophets, finally, 12 books that are considered the minor prophet category.

Which of these categories interests you the most? I know that I have studied the law books more than the other categories but excited to dive into the history books next.  Do you have a favorite book in the Old Testament? Do you like the poetry books over the prophet books? Or do you know the difference between a major or minor prophet? Better yet, have read and studied the whole Old Testament before? I have not but it is a goal of mine to one day accomplish. I love that this Old Testament chart gives me a checklist of sorts to use.

If you want help or friends to study alongside you, make sure to follow Bible Book Club for the next book drop. As of 2023, we have studied all the law books and are headed into the history section next. I know, I’m most excited for the book of Esther or Ruth in the future. I love the books about women in the Bible. Make sure to come check out the show notes page often as we will have a New Testament chart here as well. We like visual aids and hope you do too!
