Numbers 13-14: A Moment of Weakness Leads to a Life of Wandering

In this episode, we cover Numbers 13 and 14. In these chapters, a generation of people lose the opportunity of a lifetime and a lifetime of opportunity. One moment of weakness is going to lead to life of wandering in the wilderness for most Israelites.

HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:

My takeaway for these chapters were from the juxtaposition of fear and faith. Caleb and Joshua have faith while the rest of the assembly lets fear blind them. It’s that irrational fear that keeps them out the Promised land. I just couldn’t get over that. How many times has fear kept me from good God has for me if I just instead stepped out in faith? It was a great reminder.

Susan says it this way:

A strong fear will devour a weak faith.

  • As the fear takes hold of every heart, there are only two who remain firm, only two who remember…the power and the promises of God – Caleb and Joshua.
    • Caleb insists that the Israelites “can certainly do it” because in Caleb’s mind God is still a part of the equation.
      • The Israelites plus God equaled victory over the Egyptians,
      • therefore, the Israelites plus God will equal victory over the Canaanites!

There is a sharp contrast between fearful leaders and faithful leaders.

  • What drives your leadership of your family, friends, employees? Faith or fear?

What was your Bible bender? Did you learn anything new?
