Hayley (Bible Book Club Producer) here.

Here we are- the inaugural episode and starting in the beginning, literally.

So, I know it has already been said but let me reiterate–welcome to the club! Our Bible Book Club time has become a highlight of my week. To say I’m excited would be an understatement. Laughter, tears, and many cups of coffee went into starting this Bible Book Club started, but it’s all well worth it.

Now, I don’t know how you handle new adventures. You might be the planner type making multiple checklists, packing, and repacking for perfection or maybe you tend to fly by the seat of your pants. I confess… I’m the planning type (hence, my role in this podcast including responsibility for all the resources like below!). Anytime I travel I try to map out the itinerary to the hour and repack my suitcase multiple times, which is probably more from excitement than a desire for perfection. I love to travel because it is an adventure that creates a memory, an experience that you share with someone else. Adventures bring people together. And while we might not be going on a physical trip, we will be taking quite the spiritual journey together as we unpack each chapter, week by week.

Each week, Susan and Heather are going to take us somewhere that most of us probably have never been, and we are going to learn things we didn’t know. As the producer, I will be right there with you listening and learning. I’m the silent voice behind each episode, I’ll write down my unedited, millennial-perspective thoughts for you and post them here. I am so glad you found us and I hope this is the first of many meetings.

Hayley’s Bible Bender

For those that are familiar with the Bible or even those that aren’t–most people would associate Genesis with a Tree, a Snake, and Creation. I’m no different. Other than a deeper understanding of the world being created, I didn’t think I would learn anything new in the Genesis overview. However, I found with Susan as a teacher I was very wrong.

Not only did I learn some Hebrew terminology, but also I learned about the compilation of the Bible. Which, I always wondered about but was too lazy to figure out. Even with all that enlightening context, this week’s Bible bender for me was  the correlation between Genesis and John. I gasped when Susan explained how Jesus has always been part of the narrative. Having grown up in Sunday School, I knew the trinity-God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit– transcends time, i.e. Trinity was there in the beginning, in the present, and will be in the future; I just had never correlated that knowledge to Genesis 1 and John 1. It never ceases to amaze me how every detail of every book of the Bible is so intricately entwined together.

I want to know what you thought. Did you have a Bible Bender in this episode? What was your favorite part of the famous “in the beginning” verses?
