Exodus 29.5-31: The Sabbath, a Holy Time in a Holy Space

Exodus 30

Exodus 30 and 31 are very detail heavy. In this passage, we see the final details of God’s plans for the tabernacle. These chapters focus on instructions for the daily offerings to God and particularly on the importance of the Sabbath.

HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER OF EXODUS 30:

My Bible Bender  of Exodus 30 and 31 occurred when Susan combined space and time in regards to the Sabbath. Susan says it like this,

“The tabernacle was a holy space. The Sabbath was a holy time. By building the tabernacle (a holy space) and setting apart one day in seven (a holy time), God is creating worship in space and time. In other words, weekly Sabbath worship in on holy ground in holy time. This is why the permanent tabernacle, the temple in Jerusalem was and is so important to Israel. They lost their holy space.

This is also why we go to church on Sunday. When we meet on Sunday mornings, like the Israelites before us, we are worshipping in holy time and space. And the tabernacle was a place on earth where God met the Israelites. It was where heaven and earth met. When we worship in church, we are reminded of Matthew 18:20 that whenever 2 or more are gathered in God’s name, he is there with them. Heaven meets earth when we worship!”

I love the thought of Heaven meeting earth in worship. It puts a new importance and privilege on our worship time. At least, it does for me. Have you thought of worship like this before?

What was your Bible bender from Exodus 30? Did you learn anything new?
