Deuteronomy 10 and 11
This episode covers Deuteronomy 10 and 11. Moses continues with his “Just Do It” sermon but uses a double imperative to keep the Israelites’ attention. Moses says that the law + the Shema equal faith and favor with God. The same is true for us today. We will be blessed if we follow the commands, love God, and walk in obedience.
HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:
The Bible bender for me in Deuteronomy 10-11 would be from Susan’s attachment style illustration. The counselor told Susan that we are taught to obey in a progressive manner, moving from obedience out of fear of correction to obedience because we love. As Susan said, “Once learned, the lesson serves us well our entire life, especially into adulthood, where the freedoms and temptations are so much greater.”
While this example makes a lot of sense, I love that Susan and her counselor boiled it all down for us. Do we love God, then we should want to obey him. That is a thought that should indicate our true motives–do we obey everyday to just avoid the consequences or do we do it out of love and reverence for God?
What was your Bible bender from Deuteronomy 10? Did you learn anything new?
