Priest Outfit

Priest_OutfitThis example of a priest outfit, shows the immense detail involved. Moses lists out the priests outfit detail heavily in scripture.

In Exodus 39:2-5, it says, “They made the ephod (outer garment) of gold, and of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. They hammered out think sheets of gold and cut strands to be worked into the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen-the work of skilled hands. They made shoulder pieces for the ephod, which were attached to two of its corners, so it could be fastened. Its skillfully woven waistband was like it- of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.”

The passage goes on to describe the onyx stones in gold filigree settings, engraved with the names of the sons of Israel. The breast piece had mounted four rows of precious stones on it–12 stones for the 12 sons of Israel. The passage describes the robe and the bells on the hem of the garment. Every detail of the priest outfit was important and heavily outlined in the passage to prove that importance.

Is this what you imagined priests wearing? What are your thoughts on the symbolic nature of the stones? Let me know in the comments below.
