Genesis 27 and 28: The Big Switch Part 2

Genesis 27 and 28

Genesis 27 and 28 describes how Jacob and Rebekah went after the blessing after securing the birthright. Recall that with the birthright, Jacob will become the authority over the clan and received a double portion of the inheritance. With the blessing, Jacob will transfer that main line that leads to the birth of Jesus from Esau’s family to his family forever. Jacob, in getting the blessing will draft himself into the narrative of the promises of God.

HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:

While not quite a Bible bender, I think this part of the story makes this family much more relatable to us. As it says in Proverbs, “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in a community.”

As Susan mentions in the episode, the family fails on six out of seven with this one instance. Even the chosen family made many mistakes. God still pursues us, knowing our imperfections. This is such a calming thought to me.

What did you learn from Genesis 27? Did you have a Bible bender?
