Get Out of the Summer Slump

Summer Slump

Techy Tuesday: An App That Finds 2 Things I Love – My Phone & My Children

If you are like me and you think you have early-onset Alzheimer’s (not kidding, I just read the book Still Alice and it convinced me that I have Alzheimer’s) then you are often losing things like your phone, keys, sunglasses and children.  Yes, children, as they get older they are always on the go, go, go.  How many times have you thought, “Where is _____?  She should have been home by now.”  Then you call or text her to find out.  When you receive no answer you sink into a frenzy of escalating worry as the clock ticks by.  Or worse, you can’t even call your child to find out where she is because you can’t find your phone!

Wonder no more, search no more because there is a solution for finding the 2 things I love most, in the list of things I lose, my children and my phone.  The solution only works if you and your child both have an iPhone.  If you and they do, you will love this app.  It is free.  You simply download Find My iPhone and install it on your phone, your child’s phone and your computer.  Whenever you need to find your child (provided they have their phone with them) or your phone (did I leave it at the store, the bank, or at work) just go to the app.  It pulls up the location of the phones on a map within seconds.

I love it!

My Sister Is So Darn Smart

My sister started teaching full time this year which has really but a damper on our talk time.  I used to be able to call her on my way to work.  Now we can only talk after work and the kids definitely get in the way of that.

So this week I was reduced to a Sunday call and she answered from her car speaker phone.  What followed was not what I had desired (a family recap with her alone) but a conversation with “the car” full of charged up kids on an expedition.  It seems they were en route to park #5.  It was invite a friend and go park hopping day and she didn’t mean Disney Park hopping.  Nope this was a high energy, blood pumping, family fitness expedition with the final destination being a hot dog roast at Park #6.

It was fun, it was free and why didn’t I think of it?  She is so smart my sister!

Natural Bent – A Mess!

Yep, it’s just me – naturally a messy person.  Not dirty, just messy.  You know – too many projects, papers and put off organization.  So before you watch this video they did for work about clutter let’s get one thing straight – I am not the expert!

I did have solutions for these 3 clutter problems.  But I put them into practice only because I was forced out of desperation.  I adopted 2 older children (and their stuff) and went from 3 kids to 5.  I became organizationally – desperate.

So while it is not my natural bent to be organized, I have learned that taking the time to be organized saves you more time than it takes!

Here is a great tool from iMOM to help with your family’s clutter!

A Good Looking Gadget that Makes Me Look Good

It’s…my slow cooker. Really! I am sharing about this product because I love it and this one really makes me look good. My husband got it for me at William Sonoma. It was a splurge (my whole Christmas present 2 years ago, and I didn’t even get the one with the stove top liner) but it was soooooo worth it. Here’s why:

1. I can cook at night while I sleep.
2. I can cook all day while I am at work.
3. It makes one dish meals – meat, veggies and more all in one pot.
4. It is easy to clean.
5. It is huge and makes enough for my big family or enough to freeze for another meal.
6. It makes my whole house smell good when I walk in from work.
7. It saves me time.
8. It makes great comfort food.
9. It makes me feel like superwoman because I am doing two things at one time!
10. It makes me look good to my family. They love to eat.

Here are my favorite recipes…

Chicken and Dumplings
Pot Roast
Spaghetti Sauce
