Have you ever experienced mornings that are perfect for comedy shows, but not so much for reality? These chaotic, sometimes even humorous mornings, may consist of walking the dogs, making breakfast, packing lunches, getting dressed, packing sports gear, and somehow managing to drop kids off at school on time. Mornings like these are already exhausting, but what finally tips the scale are unexpected incidences like spilling hot coffee on your white blouse or getting pulled over for speeding.
When these things happen, we feel like a hot mess and a failure at life. We feel like we can’t do anything right causing us to forget we are still doing an outstanding job. Remember, we all fall short sometimes. Here are 5 encouragements you can remind yourself of when your day is not going the way you envisioned.
1. You are not alone
You are not the only mother, who has forgotten to do things for her children or who has failed, every once in a while, to satisfy her husband’s love language. We all have dropped a ball or two or even 10 in one week. We are created to be human not superwoman. Life happens, no need to stress about the little things.
2. Progress trumps perfection
Chasing perfection leads to discontentment; chasing progress leads to satisfaction. Superwoman can chase perfection without any harm; humans cannot. Humans can only chase progress because with progress comes a new breath of life and vision.
3. You are deserving of love
Just because you have dropped a ball or two in one week doesn’t mean you are undeserving of love. Sometimes the reason we forget to do something for our kids or we don’t prioritize our time correctly is because we are forgetting to have time for ourselves to recuperate from busy weeks. Mothers need to realize that they are not being selfish if they take an hour or two to pamper themselves. In fact, taking the time to self-love will give opportunities for husbands to spend quality time with the kids.
4. This too shall pass
All circumstances and situations pass in due time. If your son or daughter is holding a grudge against you because you didn’t allow them to go to a party, realize they will one day thank you for protecting them. Their grudge against you might make you feel like you are a mean mom, but this too shall pass. Trust me, they will one day thank you for not allowing them to do everything they wanted.
5. Straighten your crown
You may not be superwoman, but you are a princess of the Most High. I once heard this quote and it put everything back into perspective in my life. I hope it does the same for you. “On the darkest days when you feel inadequate, unloved and unworthy, remember whose daughter you are and straighten your crown.”
